This is a simple 2 day Twitter Contest with only 2 steps to enter.

Now what are my reasons?

It’s my 34th Birthday.

May 2nd made my 9 year Anniversary for my Kidney Transplant.

Test how well a Twitter Contest works.

To give back to the awesome followers I have.

.

Since I am celebrating two important things this week.. I feel it is a great time to give back to all my Twitter followers that have been so supportive.

The plan is to pick 3 winners with the possibility of 5 if the response to the Twitter contest is really good.

Little secret between you and me..”I’m most likely choosing 5”

Below I cover exactly what you will be winning and how to enter.

.

What You Win

I decided to give away two things that will give you the best help possible on how to use Twitter to build relationships and drive more traffic to your blog

1. Twitter Dummy Guide

2. 30 min One on One Phone Consult

This way you have a 30 min call to ask me anything about Twitter that you like and set up a gameplan for you and you have the Guide to read and refer back to as much as you like.

I normally change $19 for the Twitter Dummy Guide and $65 for a 30 min Phone Consult.

So a nice Happy Birthday to ME $84 gift for YOU! :)

A nice side bonus the winners get is some nice exposure, since I will be sharing the winners in my Follow Friday post with a link back to your Twitter page.

.

How You Enter

Getting Entered to win is a easy 2 Step Process…

Step 1 – Follow @JohnAguiar on Twitter.

Step 2 – Simply tweet “Just Entered to Win the Twitter Dummy Guide and 30 Min One-on-One Phone Consult.  Just follow @JohnAguiar and Retweet. http://bit.ly/muNgHr

.

Picking The Winners

I will be using RowFeeder https://rowfeeder.com/ to choose the 3 winners randomly for the Twitter contest.

I will be tracking my username “JohnAguiar” and term “Just Entered”

The Twitter contest will start today Tuesday and run till the end of tomorrow Wednesday May 4th.

I will choose the 3 or 5 winners on Thursday and announce them on Friday in my Follow Friday post.

.

Remember to Enter ALL You have to do is…

Step 1 – Follow @JohnAguiar on Twitter.

Step 2 – Simply tweet “Just Entered to Win the Twitter Dummy Guide and 30 Min One-on-One Phone Consult. Just follow @JohnAguiar and Retweet. http://bit.ly/muNgHr

8 Top Bloggers Answer One Important Question

Top Bloggers Sharing How To Succeed

Growing a successful blog takes hard work. But is hard work enough?

As a blogger today one of the best things you can do to help your blog succeed is being able to adapt, adapting to new tools, new ideas, new behaviors.

Blogging is always changing…

What worked 10 years ago, doesn’t work today.
What worked 5 years ago, doesn’t work today.
What worked last year, isn’t enough today. top bloggers

What worked in the past, isn’t enough to succeed with Today!

To get help on what it takes to be a successful blogger today I went to 8 of the Top Bloggers in the world.

Good people to go to for help.. Right? :)

I asked them all to answer One Important Question!

__________________________________________

Top Bloggers Question:

What is the One thing bloggers need to do today to succeed that they didn’t have to do in the past?

__________________________________________

.

top bloggers,patflynn

Pat Flynn from http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/ says:

“Interact.

Before, a blogger could throw up a blog post and that was that. Now, just publishing a post isn’t enough. It is those who respond to comments, interact with their followers and fans on Twitter and Facebook, and answer personal emails  who will create long lasting relationships with readers that will eventually lead to success.”

.

top bloggers,

Neil Patel from http://www.quicksprout.com/ says:

“Bloggers need to take the time and respond to every single one of their comments. In the past there weren’t as many blogs and the landscape was less competitive. These days you have to focus on building up your community if you want to have a popular blog.”

.

lizstrauss

Liz Strauss from http://www.successful-blog.com/ says:

“Bloggers need to know that it’s more important that ever to focus on a narrower niche — that one thing we do well is more shareable than the 7 things we love to talk about — and to come out from behind their blogs to meet people online and off to share that one thing with them. Writing great content with fabulous headlines will gather a small audience, but won’t get the community, visibility, and traction it once did.

Leaving home to meet people on their blogs, on Twitter, at conferences, and at TweetUps, for example, gets them interested in who we are and what we’re about … interested enough to come visit and to bring their friends.”

.

yarostarak

Yaro Starak from http://www.entrepreneurs-journey.com/ says:

“I’m hesitant to give any absolute answers to this question as there are exceptions to every rule, however if there was one area that it pays to pay attention to that perhaps was as important in the past, it is market research.

Understanding what the market wants and working your blog towards those angles can save you lots of time writing content that no one will ever want.

The reason this is more important now is simple a supply and demand issue. Back then there simply wasn’t as much content or blogs competing for attention. With a larger industry comes the need for your work to have a more narrow focus.”

.

top bloggers-timsykes

Tim Sykes from http://www.timothysykes.com/ says:

“Bloggers must be willing to adapt to new technologies and internet trends faster than ever as the popularity of our field is speeding up advancements in plugins, tools, SEO, products and content each and every day.”

.

top bloggers,lisairby

Lisa Irby from http://www.2createawebsite.com/ says:

“One thing bloggers must do today if they want success is learn how to network with others.  When blogs emerged six or seven years ago, it was about writing keyword-focused content and eventually your blog will get picked up by the search engines. While that’s still feasible today, there is much more competition, so if you want your blog to grow and thrive, networking with other bloggers is much more important than it was years ago.

Of course there will be the occasional blogger who writes incredibly well and can build up a successful blog on their own, but the average Joe blogger needs to exercise those networking muscles in some form.  Blogging really has become a team sport.”

.

top bloggers

Michael Martine from http://remarkablogger.com/ says:

“The “One Thing” bloggers need to do today to succeed that they didn’t have to do in the past is forget about RSS. What do I mean by that? Syndication technology works great as a background engine to deliver content. It’s beautiful for that. But most people don’t know what it is. Back in the early days of blogging, it was all about getting subscribers through RSS feeds (remember Bloglines?). But as blogging has erupted into the mainstream, RSS reader usage hasn’t kept pace. Sure many tech-savvy folks use readers, and heck, even Microsoft Outlook has a built-in feed reader, now.

But most people prefer to subscribe to content via email. And even though FeedBurner allows for email sign-up and delivery of RSS feeds, my suggestion to you is to just forget about RSS. Your feed will still exist for those who know what to do with it, but you’re gonna be much better off using an email list management service like Aweber or MailChimp. I believe if you really want to make money blogging, the opportunities you get when combining a blog with email marketing is phenomenal.

Another reason to forget about RSS is the advent of social media which has evolved since the early days of blogging. Back in the day, we didn’t label commenting on blogs as “social media.” Instead of trying to find ways to use RSS to spread content, we now have a much more open social ecosystem where the blog is a hub and social media services like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are satellite channels which drive traffic back to the hub. In other words, instead of concerning ourselves with automating the spread of content, we’ve moved to a more social, human and very manual form of content sharing via social media.

Blogging, email marketing and social media form what I call the “Golden Triangle” of online marketing. RSS is not part of that picture. If you want to make money blogging, you have to put energy into your marketing strategies and tools.”

.

top bloggers-danschawbel

Dan Schawbel from http://www.personalbrandingblog.com/ says:

“You have to spend at least one more hour writing extremely good content because there’s ten times more publishers on the web than there was five years ago. You’re competing against 145 million blogs, that post multiple times per week, so you have to have extremely good content if people are going to share it. If people don’t share it, you won’t have much of a brand.”

.

Pro Bloggers from different backgrounds laying out what you need to do to succeed as a blogger today.

I’ve made some changes to my blogging after I read their answers, hopefully you see the power in their advice and make some changes to how you blog today and into the future.

The Thank You Economy Book Review

Thank You Economy by Gary Vaynerchuk

I just finished reading this book on Sunday and I have to say, it is one of the best books I have read.

Why? Usually when you read a book like this, you say “cool, can’t wait to try this on my business“ or something similar.  But you have no proof it works, or will work for you and your business.

But with The Thank You Economy book, after the first chapter I KNEW it works, I KNEW what Gary was saying is real and I KNEW this because I have already been doing it for about 2 years.

Gary talks about connecting with people, building strong relationships and offering over the top customer service and value. the thank you economy, the thank you economy book review

If you have read my blog for any amount of time, you know I push engagement and building relationships.

What is my biggest secret to my Twitter success?

.

I thank every person for every tweet and I thank them with their first name! I do the work to find their name on their profile on their blog on their about me page on the author title in a new post wherever it is I find it and use it to say thank you.

Why? Because nothing makes someone feel more important or that you are engaged with them, then to use their first name when you talk to them.

Side story: In Dec I got hired by an author releasing a new book as her social media manager for 3 months, a gig that paid me $2500  I asked her why me?  She said that the first time she RT’d one of my posts, I thanked her using her name and she said NO ONE has ever done that.

This is a small part of what you will learn in The Thank You Economy

.

Social Media Is The Future

Gary feels that for any business to have long term success, they will need to take their business back to the 1950’s. Back when Customer service was king.

The power of social media will force business leaders to start thinking like small-town shop owners: allowing “the personality, heart, and soul of the people who run all levels of the business to show,” having authentic conversations, and demonstrating real caring. “We’re living in what I like to call the Thank You Economy,” “because only the companies that can figure out how to mind their manners in a very old-fashioned way–and do it authentically–are going to have a prayer of competing.”

.

Favorite Quotes

“Social media is like a kidney. You can survive with one, but your odds are better with two. And in the future, “social media will be as important to a business as a strong heart.”

Quality content is king. Always.

But from now on, quality content must be followed up with quality engagement. You had better be ready and waiting to engage your consumer online when they start Googling and Tweeting Facebooking to find out more about the awesome content they just experienced, because that’s how our consumer culture works now.”

I like this one the best, since I had a Kidney Transplant :)   Gary is right, sharing and tweeting something is good, but being there after to engage with people is best.

.

“There’s only so low you can go on price. There’s only so excellent you can make your product or service. There’s only so far you can stretch your marketing budget. Your heart, though, that’s boundless”

Social Media done right will put you way ahead of your competitor. It can be the difference you fail or succeed.

.

“Business leaders consistently underestimate two things. First, they underestimate people’s willingness to forgive. They are afraid to put up fan pages because they think any negative comment is equal to a ’60 Minutes’ investigation showing the whole world how much they stink….  Second, they underestimate people’s [B.S.] radar.”

People don’t care if you make mistakes, it shows you are normal. What people really care about is how you deal with the negative.

Every product or company will have problems, how you deal with your customers, is what will make you stand out.

.

2 Things That Stood Out

I liked how Gary broke down how Yelp almost crushed Zagat as the go to place for restaurant reviews. Here’s how Gary shared it…

Zagat is the go-to guide for foodies the world over until 2004, when former PayPal employees Jeremy Stoppelman and Russel Simmons launch Yelp, a new, free site driven by user reviews.

By 2008, Yelp has 10 million unique visitors. Zagat tries to sell its business that year, but there are no takers. Later that same year, Yelp releases its free iPhone app, while Zagat launches a $10 iPhone app.

By 2009, Yelp reports 25 million unique visitors, while the $25-per-year membership fee-based Zagat gets 270,000. December 2009 sees Yelp turn down a $550 million offer from Google and $700 million offer from Microsoft, having become one of the great Internet brands.

In 2010, Zagat finally gets with it by teaming with Foursqaure and embracing social media strategies like enabling users to post photos and comments about their experiences.

Gary goes into even more ways social media will help your business stand out against the big guy in The Thank You Economy

Social Media is like Word-Of-Mouth on steroids, the power is to the people now. This is another thing that caught my eye when I was reading…

It is no longer about what you say about you.  It is now about what other people say about you (68% of consumers trust peer recommendations over ads) and how you react and respond to what is being said.

Are you giving people a reason to say thanks right now?  Are you creating a virtual footprint that once people discover allows them to become engrossed with your brand the way that I was with Gary’s?  If not do that.  It works.

How To Stay Motivated When Your Blog Is Invisible | Money Dummy Blog

Stay Motivated With A Invisible Blog

Ok, invisible is a little strong but having a blog that is not attracting the visitors you want will feel like it is invisible.

One of the hardest things I had to work thru was working my blog everyday in the beginning when I wasn’t getting the traffic or the comments or the social shares. I wrote post after post, I shared my posts and still no activity.

It sucked but it made me a better blogger in the end.

The real learning happens when things are hard, when you feel you are working for nothing. Being able to work thru all that negativity and still write posts, share posts etc..  will make you a stronger blogger.blog motivation

If you can write a post in a conversational style when there is NO ONE to talk too, think how good you will be at writing that same post when you have an active audience.

The good news is that the hardest part of your blogging journey is in the beginning phase, launch phase.

I like to say “blogging is like a shuttle launch, shuttle uses something like 70% of it’s fuel on the take off and the other 30% to finish the trip”

With your blog, it works the same way.

When you launch your blog that is when you will do the most work, like writing posts, getting readers, backlinks, making new blog friends and setting up your goals.

But once you have a blog rolling and full of content, traffic and you’re blog’s community is growing, things get a little easier. You will still need to work it hard, but more on a maintaining level.

Today I want to share some of the tips that helped me thru the early days of my blog.

Stay Motivated When You’re Blog Is Invisible.

.

Appreciate The Little Wins

A successful blog has more to do with the small wins you have everyday then it does with the few big wins. Small wins keep us motivated and in a positive place to keep moving forward.

A small win can be anything… extra 50 unique visitors a day, 5 more comments per post, 5 more social shares, it can be anything.

Just realize and appreciate them, these are what will grow your blog.

Build On You’re Little Wins

Once you have acknowledged a new win, you will want to build off that. Focus on other small wins to keep you motivated and working.

How about one post a week? Seems like a easy win for anyone right? Once you hit that, then build off that and go for another small win, like sharing your blog post on 5 new sites or spending 30 min a day on Twitter or Facebook.  All are small doable wins that you can reach each day or week.

The goal is to keep your mind in a happy place, staying positive is all you really need to work thru a invisible blog.

The more small wins you can put together, the faster you will see success with your blog.

Look Back

I watch the TV show Biggest Loser and I always say, “he/she doesn’t look like they lost that much so far” but then they do a split of them now and an image of when they started and you see a HUGE difference.

Do this with your blog. Sometimes we get so busy that we forget where we started.  For me, I like to look back on the early days when I couldn’t get a comment or a RT or share to save my life. I look at how my writing and topics have changed for the better. I look at how more focused my goals are now with my blog then they were back then.

You need to do the same, look back and see how far you and your blog have come.

Why Are You Here

My man Jack Zufelt said it best “when you’re WHY is so meaningful and powerful and at a mind and heart level, you can accomplish anything you want”!

A great way to stay motivated is to know exactly why your blog is here, why you want to have a blog, how you can help people, how you can make your niche better.

Once you have that deep down why, then it will be hard to get distracted on the down days of you’re blog.

Get Inspired

Finding inspiration is another way to keep you motivated on building you’re blog.

Read other blogs that have the success you want to see, read books like Jack Zufelts “The DNA of Success” that I mentioned above.

Go back and read any positive comments or emails or tweets you have gotten from readers that appreciate you and you’re blog.

Anything can help and the more inspired you can get, the longer you and you’re blog will be around.

Welcome Failure

I know, sounds crazy to want failure, but if you are failing that means you are actually DOING SOMETHING.

The truth is, you will fail, you will fail a lot.

When you are new to something, the best way to learn is thru personal experience. Failure like fear can be you’re best friend, if you know how to harness it.

With failure you need to look at what you have learned. Then take that learning and try again and again and again.

The more you fail, the more you will succeed.

Don’t Walk Away

No matter how down you feel or how defeated you feel, do not give up.  The motivation will come back, the inspiration will come back, the blog success you want will come.

Time and time again I will go home kinda blah about my day, I didn’t get done what I planned, or something went wrong or whatever it is, and I’m just blah or even pissed off and you know what?

The next day I come in to a great email from a reader or I get a new client or I made a few sales. It all comes back around, so don’t let the down days affect you to much.

If you give up, you will never know what could have been.

I know for me, not know what could have been is a much worse feeling then trying and failing.

To be honest, the only real way for you to fail with you’re blog is to just give up. Even a bad blog will see some type of success in the long run.

And since you’re here reading this, then I know you don’t have a bad blog :)

Relax A Little Bit

Ok, we are talking about blogging, not that serious. So give yourself a break and relax.

Some things just take time, and you’re time will come.

If you’re not feeling the blog, then just walk away for a day or two, if you don’t want to write this week, then don’t.

I would rather you take a couple days off, or a week off from posting then to have you write crap just to get a post out, or even worse, to quit you’re blog all together.

So if all the tips I shared above don’t work, then just relax and walk away.

Then come back and hit you’re blog hard again.

____________________________________

That’s the 8 things that helped me get thru the early day’s of Money Dummy.

I am glad I worked thru all the negativity and happy with the direction I am going.

If you follow my tips above, you will take you’re invisible blog to a successful blog in no time.

Have any motivation tips? Share in comments..Thanks :)

Follow Friday Favorites Week 7 | Money Dummy Blog

Follow Friday Favorites

April 1st – April Fools day  Crazy how time is flying by.

This week I connected with some great people on Twitter this week, some have made it to the Top 10 List below.

List this week has a nice mix of new friends and some friend that have been around a long time.

It’s a great feeling to see people still following you, engaging and sharing with you from the beginning. I also know I have lost some friends along the way for any number of reasons, and that is ok.follow friday

You do the best you can, you engage the best you can, you share the way you know how and the rest isn’t up to you.

People stay around or choose to move on for so many reasons, it is impossible to know why or try to fix it.

My little insight is, do the best you can and don’t stress what you can’t control.

Twitter Tip:

Twitter is a tool and like any tool, you need to use it as best you can and at the same time focus on other tools to build your brand and business.

No one tool will build your business by itself.

Trust.. I know by experience that Twitter can EASILY become addictive and suck time out of your day haha

That’s why you need to have your end goal in mind from what you want from Twitter. This will help you stay focused and on point and not get sucked into wasting unproductive hours on Twiitter.

To get the most out of Twitter, knowing what NOT to do is just as important as what you NEED to do.twitter mistakes

Some mistakes are small and some are bigger

and have more of a negative impact on your efforts, but either way, they should all be fixed to give you the best chance at reaching your goals on Twitter.

Today I wanted to share 12 Twitter Mistakes that I have learned from personal experience and some from common sense.

1. Not Sharing YOU

For me, I believe keeping it personal is best and that means using your own face as your avatar and using your name.

If you have a blog, then you want to be your brand, that way that brand can be taken to any website or product you release in the future.

Also this is SOCIAL media, and sharing you will make it easier for people to follow you and engage with you since they feel like they know who they are talking to after seeing your face and name.

The only time I would say go with something besides YOU, would be if you have a Twitter account for a product or service, ex: I have this account set up for a new project @MYBLOGGERBUDDY

For that I used the logo image as my avatar and also kept the name of the website, since this account will be mainly sharing info on the site and the users.

Even if you have an account set up for a product or service you should still have a main account that is you, branding you.

2. Not Using Your Background

Your Twitter background is a great place to show your brand, share more info or contact info.

Not taking advantage of this real estate is a big mistake.

Now I will say don’t go overboard, a little branding and info will go a long way.

3. Not Being Active

The best way to get results from your efforts on Twitter is to be there, be active. Now the question is, how much do you need to be there?

I don’t really know haha But I do know the more your there the more you will get out of Twitter.

You need to find what works for you… keep in mind what I shared in the intro :)

But tweeting twice a day or spending only 10 min a day on Twitter really won’t cut it.

At the same time, being there all day or sending tweets every 10 min 24 hrs a day won’t cut it either.

I recommend a tweet every hour or so in chunks.  Meaning, tweet a few messages in morning then a few in afternoon and then a few at night.  That way you get in front of the most people thru the day.

You don’t want to be a spammer, but you need to show activity, people will connect with you faster if they see your active daily.

4. You Talk To Much

I learned this the hard way, when I started Twitter I never shut up lol

I blame my childhood, people always said I would be a great lawyer :)

On Twitter you can talk, but you need to listen much more. You need to engage with people, share with people.

If you share a post, then be available to chat it up after the fact with anyone that makes a comment or has a question, this applies to your posts or any post you share.

Ok off topic a little but if you share something make sure you read it first.  Many many times when I share someone else’s post or a websites post, people will come to me to chat it up or ask a question, sometimes in a negative way haha  even though I didn’t write the post.

Your followers will come to you because they know you and will chat up the post with you even though it’s not yours, so read everything you share and be ready for the feedback.

5. Following Anyone

I know the power of having a huge following has on people cming to Twitter, but you have to resist, you need to focus on following/connecting with targeted people in your niche.

If you’re a blogger then follow or find bloggers, it makes no send for you to follow people that don’t even know what blogging is.. right?

Ex: if you sold tanning lotion, would you go to make sales?

Miami Beach or Anchorage Alaska?  I hope you said Miami haha

You want to view your following the same way.

6. Tweeting Too Much

This builds of Mistake #3 above.

Here is what will happen if you tweet to many times.

1.    You will annoy your followers and lose them
2.    Your messages will lose power and people will start to ignore them
3.    You will get much less RTs on your posts
4.    You will lose traffic to your blog

Now to me, those are all BIG reason to watch how you tweet.

You should follow a tweet schedule.. I have one that has taken me 2 years to perfect for me.

Like I shared in #3 above, you want to tweet a few messages in the morning a few in the afternoon and few at night.

If that is working for you, then test sending a couple more messages thru the day and see how that works, till you find a nice schedule of having an active stream that isn’t annoying.

Once you have a system in place then you can add some random tweets of what’s happening in your life or whatever.

7. It’s To Much About You

I know I know you are so wonderful that you want the world to know it.. but on Twitter this just won’t work.

Sharing “Your Stuff” is ok, but you should be sharing other people stuff much more.  Keep it to about a 70-30 or if your new a 80-20.

This way, you don’t come off as a bot or pushy.

When you share other people stuff, you will still benefit, remember what I said in #4, “people will come to you to chat up a link you shared even when it’s not yours”: so you will get the feedback, the engagement.

You will become the go to guy/girl for great tweet shares, which will help your own shares get more attention.

8. Not Connecting

I have said this one pretty much EVERY Twitter post I have written, and yet it still needs to be said.

If you are on Twitter and are NOT engaging with your followers then you might as well go back to Myspace.

Engaging on Twitter is as important as it is in a relationship or marriage.

How long would your marriage or relationship last if you never communicated together?  Not long right?

On Twitter, if you are not engaging your followers, you will not last!

9. Scheduling With No Follow Up

I know this is a hot topic for people, to schedule or not to schedule haha

I say schedule schedule schedule :)

You see scheduling is not the issue, the issue is scheduling with no follow up.

There would only be one difference between these two groups..

Group A schedules and is there to engage after each and every tweet.

Group B doesn’t schedule, but they look for tweets as they need and send them out and are there to engage after each and every tweet.

What would the difference be?   Group B would have wasted a lot of time thru out the day.

How the tweet goes out doesn’t matter, what matters is what you do once the tweet is sent!

10. Not Being Helpful

Want to know the best way to build a community on Twitter and drive traffic to your blog?

Be helpful. Fix Problems.

Helping people with a problem they have will get you a follower for life.

When you help people, you automatically make yourself the “expert” in that area, or at least the expert to them.

11. Do You Have A Personality

This goes along with #1 above.  People connect with people they know, or feel they know.

Same advice you have been given to build a successful blog is to write with your personality, can and should be applied to Twitter

If your funny, then be funny on Twitter. If you have a love for sports then share some of that on Twitter.

Again here, a little bit goes a long way.

For me, if you ever met me in person, you would see that I am the same guy I am on my blog and Twitter.

Be Real, Be You

12. Spamming – Spammer

This is a BIG pet peeve for me lately. Getting spam from spammers pushing teeth whitening, or electric cigs is bad, but you deal with it.

The spam I been getting lately is from fellow bloggers I respect and think of as friends.

Tweeting people your link to a new post or something of yours is spam..PERIOD!

Here is why… whatever you @me all my followers will see, now when you spam me your link you took away the ability for me to review what it was first before I shared it with my followers.

For me, and I hope for you, you should be very choosy with what you share whether it’s yours or not.  What you share makes you who you are on Twitter and @me your link takes that away.. hence.. Spam

What you should do, is DM me the link, that way you give me the op to read it, and if I like it, I will share it.  This is the way RIGHT way to share with people on Twitter.

OK, now for my buddy the Direct Message.

Kinda like scheduling tweets, DM’s are not the issue, what you send in the DM is the issue how many times you say it.

Sending one DM to a new followers saying something like.. “Hey thanks for the follow, learn more about me at “your about me page” or your “Twitter landing page”” is perfectly fine.

Now if you send that DM with a new biz idea, or selling a product, that is when your DM becomes Spam.

_____________

Wow.. a lot of negativity in this post haha  But sometimes you have to share the bad things to help.

Hopefully this post helped you see a few things you may or may not be doing and how to fix them.

If you have any other Twitter Mistakes, share them in the comments below :)

Write A Blog Post With My 7 Easy Steps

Write A Blog Post Step By Step

You know how important content is.. Right?  You also know that Google has tightened it’s belt on content and ranking only the freshest and best content.. Right?

Knowing all this I wanted to share how I write a blog post with you.

I’m also going to share an embarrassing secret with you.

I spend a lot of my time writing blog posts or writing blog post ideas as they come to me. Some make the cut and some don’t and some sit half done. For me whenever an idea hits I write it down and I add what I want to cover and a title then I leave it be till it’s time to write a new post.write a blog post

I’ve been able to create a nice step by step plan that has worked really well for me.

Ok, time for my embarrassing reveal…”Hello Everyone..My name is John Paul and I am a 2 Finger Typer”  haha

Yep I type with my 2 index fingers. So the truth is when you see spelling errors, 9 out of 10 times it is because one of my fingers moves faster then the other ?  not that I can’t spell, now the grammar errors are all me. Haha

So if a 2 finger typer like me can follow this plan and get posts written then anyone can.

Here’s a look at How I Write a Blog Post.

Choose Your Topic

Your biggest hurdle to writing a new blog post is deciding what to write about. You want to go with something new, never been written. But if you can’t and you will be writing about something that has been written about before, then make sure to research what others have said and say it differently and bring your own voice to the post.

Powerful Title

I believe one of the most important things on a new post is a having a powerful title. Having a good title will attract more readers to the post, a bad title will keep people from ever seeing the great post you wrote.

When I write a blog post, I spend a lot of time on what my title should be. Here are things you want in your title…

Place your keywords in the title, preferably the front.

Make sure your title matches what the content is about.

Keep it to 5-10 words long.

Think of creative ways to say the simple things.

Knowing the power a great title has, spend a good amount of time on it, write it down see how it looks and read it out loud see how it sounds.

What Is Your Goal

When you write a post, you will want to decide what the goal of your new blog post. Posts can be written for many reasons, here are a few…

Writing for a keyword

Sharing a tutorial

Doing a product review, make a sale

Expressing your opinion on something

Sharing news

Once you know the goal for your new post, it will be easier to lay it out and write.

Start Writing

Now it is time to write, this is where you just let go of any hang-ups or how you want to say this or that.. Just Write!

You already know your topic, title and your goal. Now it is just about you getting what you want to say on paper or screen haha bring say what you want to say, say it with personality and be done.

Don’t worry about structure or spelling or grammar now, now you just write.

Get Your Images

We have talked about using images when your write a blog post before and how powerful a great image can be.

Now that you have your title and post done, you want to find an image that fits. Be creative here, but make sure the image still fits the post.

I usually go to Google to find a great image, but Istockphoto and Shutterstock are good resources too.

Engage Your Readers

Asking questions or asking your readers for their input or opinion on your new blog post is the best way to get your readers to engage with you.

I have said it before and I will say it again…your comments area is the best place to build relationships with your readers, share more info on the post topic and get ongoing learning from you and your readers.

Have you ever read a blogger that’s gets huge comments?  Have you read thru the comments to see all the FREE info and training there shared by the blogger and by his readers?

That is what you want to do with all your blog posts.

Read and Edit

I know I know, your thinking.. “But JP, you have spelling or grammar errors” Well like I shared above, I’m a 2 finger typer so I have a handicap haha

Think of your parents advice here..”Do As I Say Not As I Do”

You want to check for spelling and grammar errors to the best of your ability and we all have different abilities.

Once I have my blog post is done, I go back and Read it Out Load to catch any grammar or flow or spelling issues.  Here is where you also want to remove the “fluff” say what you want to say and move on.. the best way to ruin good advice is by over talking it.

Depending on your goal for the post, you want to make sure you have your keywords in place your links in place and anything else that goes with the goal of your post.

Conclusion

The way I write a blog post has worked really well for me. Once you have a nice simple plan you can follow you will see that writing a new blog post will be easier and faster.

Know that no one is perfect, your blog posts will never be perfect either. So don’t let that keep you from sharing the way you really want to share.

Once you start writing without mental blocks you will see how your posts hit a higher level.

That’s all folks haha   You know have my super secret blog post plan and you now know my embarrassing secret too.

Let me know if you have any steps you do or if you just want to laugh at my 2 finger abilities :)
